<The Love: Inner Starfield> is a digital extension of the artist’s sculptural series <The Love>, expanding its investigation of stars and love into the inner universe of the human being. The artist does not regard a star as a self-luminous celestial body, but as rough, unrefined matter—an entity that reveals its presence only by reflecting the light of the sun. Such light, faint yet persistent, becomes a sign of love that offers not fear but rest and hope to fragile life.

From this perspective, the earlier sculptural works deliberately avoid using direct light sources such as bulbs or lamps. Instead, they translate the micro-sensations of light—afterglow, shimmer, warmth, surface tremor—into sculptural texture through mineral and tactile materials. This approach seeks to create the impression of raw matter holding light within it, even without emitting it.

Through this process, the artist observes both parallels and distinctions between stars and human beings. As stars reflect external light to illuminate darkness, humans also reflect the love they receive, brightening their relationships and communities. Yet unlike stars, which remain passive receivers, humans strive to love actively; they attempt to generate light from within. This agency suggests the presence of an inner source—an origin of light, or love, residing in the human interior.

The introduction of AI became a necessary step in expanding this concept. Love and the inner world exist as immaterial energies without fixed form, making them difficult to fully articulate through physical sculpture alone. AI, operating through data and light, provides a contemporary sculptural language capable of visualizing invisible expansions and the emergence of internal luminosity. The generative process—where interconnected information reacts and reorganizes into new formations—echoes the way the artist conceives of love’s mode of operation.

<The Love: Inner Starfield> visualizes the moment when this inner light unfolds. While the physical sculptures of 〈The Love〉 address the solidity of relationships and existence through external form, this digital counterpart reveals the previously unseen interior cosmos—expressed through life-like natural imagery and radiance that expands outward from within.

By reconstructing existing sculptures through AI, or freely generating new digital stars within the conceptual framework, the artist charts a transition: from stars that merely reflect external light toward beings capable of manifesting light from within. The series marks a significant turning point in the artist’s worldview—shifting from the “external star” to the “human who enacts love,” and ultimately toward the revelation of the light and universe contained inside every individual.

이러한 관점에서 기존  <The Love> 조형 작업은 전구나 램프 같은 직접적 광원을 배제하고, 잔광, 반짝임, 온도, 표면의 떨림 등 빛이 지닌 미시적 감각을 다양한 질감과 무기질 재료로 조형화해왔다. 이는 정제되지 않은 물질이 빛을 머금은 듯한 감각을 구현하려는 시도였다. 작가는 이 과정에서 별과 인간이 지닌 유사성과 차이를 발견한다. 별이 외부의 빛을 반사해 어둠을 비추듯, 인간 역시 받은 사랑을 타인에게 전하며 사회와 관계를 밝게 만든다. 그러나 수동적인 별과 달리, 인간은 스스로 사랑하기를 힘쓰며 내면에서 빛을 발현하려 노력하는 존재이다. 이 능동성은 인간 내부에 빛, 즉 사랑의 근원이 자리하고 있음을 시사한다.

AI 활용은 이러한 개념적 확장의 필연적인 선택이었다. 사랑과 내면의 세계는 형태를 갖지 않은 비물질적 에너지로 존재하며, 물질 기반 조형만으로는 온전히 포착하기 어려운 영역이었다. AI는 데이터와 빛이라는 비물질적 요소를 기반으로 보이지 않는 내면의 확장과 사랑의 발현을 시각화할 수 있는 동시대적 조형 언어로 기능한다. AI 생성 과정에서 관계된 정보들이 서로 연결되고 반응하며 새로운 형태를 생성하는 방식은, 작가가 정의하는 사랑의 작동 방식과 깊이 있게 맞닿아 있다.
